Requesting certificates online

You can request various certificates online and avoid going to the registration service desks. The price of the online service is 10% cheaper than in person.

Accessing registration services in person, including Citizen Card services

Assistance in person without a prior appointment is currently available at most service desks of the Institute of Registries and Notary (IRN). Find out which locations still require scheduling for face-to-face service.

IRN services are provided at the registration service desks at:

  • Citizen Shops
  • civil registry offices and
  • notaries’ offices.

Some services are also available at Citizen Spots.

We recommend making a reservation for face-to-face service at the registration service desks, even if this is not mandatory. Appointments can be made via the SIGA platform. You can also use the SigaApp mobile application, available on Android and iOS.

Additionally, you can book an appointment for a registration service desk at a Citizen Shop via the Citizen Card Line (+351 210 990 111) or the Registries Line (+351 211 950 500).

You can get service tickets via the SIGA platform and through SigaApp (on Android and iOS) for services relating to Citizen Cards, passports, birth registration, death registration and vehicle registration.

Passport services in person

Support with passport-related services is available without prior appointment at the registration service desks (at a civil registry office or a Citizen Shop). However, we still recommend scheduling in advance for face-to-face service.

The Passport Outlets at Lisbon and Porto Airports are exclusively for issuing an urgent passport or an urgent airport passport.

This service must be booked in advance by sending an email to gricrp.cc@sef.pt. Your email must include the following:

  • full name
  • Citizen Card number
  • required appointment location (Passport Outlet at either Lisbon Airport or Porto Airport)
  • telephone number
  • reason for the request for urgency
  • preferred date of service.
