Childcare and Grandchildcare Allowance available on Social Security Direct

You can now apply for Childcare and Grandchildcare Allowances through Segurança Social Direta and track your application status online.

In Segurança Social Direta, just go to the menu "Familia" and select the option "Parentalidade". On that page press the button "Pedir novo" and choose the benefit you want. The proof of your request is available in "Ações", in the option "Obter Comprovativo".

The Childcare Allowance is granted to those who are absent from work to urgently care for their children in case of illness or accident. It applies to minors or adults (they must be part of the household), and to children with a disability or chronic illness, regardless of age.

The Grandchildcare Allowance is paid to grandparents who replace their parents in providing urgent care for their grandchildren in the event of illness or accident. The grandparents' days of absence are deducted from the days that parents are entitled to miss each calendar year in order to care for their children.
