The SNIG is the National Geographic Information Infrastructure that enables the registration and search of data and spatial data services produced by public and private entities in Portugal, constituting a key foundation for the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive (INfrastructure for SPatial InfoRmation in Europe) in Portugal.

The SNIG centralises access to all geographic information produced by several public and private bodies, including open data, promoting its dissemination and allowing its use and sharing in accordance with the INSPIRE Directive. The metadata catalogue makes it possible to combine the search with free text, scale, geographical and time extension, type of service and INSPIRE themes, among other factors.  Through the SNIG geo-portal it is possible to search, explore and view spatial data through OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) spatial data services.
