Who can sign up at the job centre?

  • Any individual who meets the requirements:

    • being over 16 years old
       
    • having acquired the compulsory education (under 18 years old, you must have concluded the 12th grade; over 18 years old, you may have any education level)

  •  

    • being able and available to work.

When can you sign up at the job centre?

You may sign up at any time.

Will you sign up to request an unemployment benefit?

If so, you have 90 days from the date you became unemployed to sign up.

What are the documents and requirements to sign up at the job centre?

  • To apply for a job, you shall need:

    1. Identification documents
    Situation  Documents necessary
    If you have Portuguese nationality

    Bring with you one of the following valid identification means:

    • the Citizen Card
    • the identification document + the Social Security card.
    If you have nationality from a European Union country or from Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Switzerland

    Bring with you one of the following valid identification means:

    • the Citizen Card of your country of origin
    • the passport.

    If you have nationality from another country

    		 Bring with you the valid documents which allows you to legally reside and work in Portugal.
    1. Unemployment benefit documents (only if you are to request this benefit)
    Consult the information on the unemployment benefit to know which documents you need to submit on the employment service.
    1. Access data to the iefponline portal (only if you submit the request online)

    You shall need one of the following authentication methods:

    • the access codes of iefponline portal
    • the access codes of Direct Social Security
    • the citizen card, pin codes and card reader
    • the Digital Mobile Key.

What is the Price to sign up at the job centre?

It is free of charge.

How sign up at the job centre?

Online

  1. Access the iefponline portal and press “Log in”.

If you are already signed up on the portal, use your access data.

If you are not signed up on the portal, sign up or use one of the following authentication methods:

  • the access codes of Direct Social Security
  • the Citizen Card, pin codes and card reader
  • the Digital Mobile Key.
  1. Choose the option “User Sign Up” and fill the job application fields.

Are you signing up to request an unemployment benefit?

After you sign up online, you shall be contacted by IEFP (through letter, email or by phone) to submit, in person, on an employment service, the necessary documents to request the benefit. If you are entitled to receive the benefit, the starting payment date shall correspond to the date in which you signed up online.
