Accessing Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) Services
At the Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) you can access services related to driving licenses, registration certificates, drivers' certificates and vehicle licensing, among others. Access to these services and clarification of doubts can be done online, at the desk, by phone or e-mail.

1. Search for the service you want to use
To find out if the service you want to access can be done on IMTonline, use the ePortugal search bar (at the top of this page) and search for the service. You can also search the IMT portal for more information about the services.
All pages give information about the channels through which you can perform the services you will need. IMT services that can be used online have a link to IMTonline.
2. Choose a means of authentication
You can access IMTonline with one of the following tools:
- your Tax Identification Number (NIF)
- an activated Digital Mobile Key (CMD)
- a smartcard reader for your Citizen Card (in this case you will also need the card's authentication code).
Is the service you are looking for any of these?
A number of services can be accessed using the IMTOnline portal, such as:
- Revalidate a driving licence
- Replace a driving licence
- Exchange a foreign driving licence for a Portuguese driving licence
- Request the issue of a TVDE [individual and remunerated passenger transport in unmarked vehicles through electronic platforms] driver certificate
- Apply for a parking card for persons with disabilities.
NB: Applications for exchanges of foreign driver's licenses and the search for homologations are made, exclusively, online.
IMT services are provided at the counters of the IMT Regional Directorates, at the IMT counters in the Citizen Shops and at the Citizen Spots. To find out which branches offer the service you require, check the IMT website.
In general, you don’t need to book in advance for face-to-face service at the IMT, but it is still recommended.
The appointment is mandatory in the following situations:
- Document delivery to exchange a foreign license for a Portuguese one - scheduling in Lisbon (Saldanha and Marvila Citizen Shops), Porto, Setúbal and Faro
- Attendance at collective entities (service providers, driving schools and agencies, for example).
You can schedule online through the SIGA platform or the SigaApp (available for iOS and Android).
With or without an appointment, in-person service is limited to 3 cases (same or different) per person.
If you go to an IMT office without an appointment, you can get a service ticket via the SigaApp mobile application.
NB: If you are entitled to priority service, you do not need to make an appointment.

- by calling the IMT Support Line (+351 210 488 488 working days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for any matter
- via the contact form on the IMT portal for questions regarding drivers, vehicles, transport, maritime/port activities or other matters. You will receive a reply by email.
