Volunteering in Portugal

Volunteering in Portugal is organised by public or private promoters. The application and selection rules depend on the volunteering programme applied for.

Looking for volunteering opportunities in Portugal

Since volunteering is organised by a large number of organisations, there is no central information point for all volunteering programmes.

To make it easier to look for volunteering programmes in Portugal, there are platforms that bring together programmes run by various organisations. Examples are the Plataforma Portugal Voluntário (Portugal volunteering platform) or the Programa Agora Nós (a national youth volunteering programme) where those interested in taking part in volunteering activities and the entities that run them can register. This therefore allows organisations with ongoing projects to find people with the right profile for their project.

For further information and to find other organisations promoting volunteering, see the CASES site.

Looking for international volunteering opportunities

In addition to volunteering opportunities in Portugal, international volunteering initiatives are also available. One of the more relevant international volunteering projects in Portugal is the European Solidarity Corps, which allows 18 to 30 year-olds to take part in volunteering projects lasting from 2 to 12 months in Portugal or other European Union countries.
