Fire Safety in buildings
Safety against fire in buildings has as general principles the preservation of human life, the environment and cultural heritage.
In mainland Portugal it is the responsibility of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority to ensure compliance, with the exception of buildings and enclosures classified in the 1st risk category, which are the responsibility of municipalities.
Fire safety responsabilities
1st risk category
Municipalities are responsible for compliance with SCIE legislation in buildings and enclosures classified in the 1st risk category.
2nd, 3rd and 4th risk category
The ANEPC is the responsible entity for ensuring compliance with the fire safety legislation in buildings (of buildings and enclosures) classified in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th risk categories.
