Extension of the social benefit for inclusion to children and adolescents with disabilities

22.08.2019

In the Council of Ministers was approved the decree-law that proceeds to the third phase of implementation of the social benefit for inclusion (PSI), defining the access to the benefit for children and adolescents with disabilities equal or higher than 60%.

According to the Secretary of State for Employment, Miguel Cabrita, quoted by the Government Portal: "this extension of the PSI to childhood consists in the attribution of a fixed amount, corresponding to 50% of a reference value of the basic component, about 136 euros, regardless of the economic resources available to the family". "The amount awarded is increased by 35% when the child lives in a single-parent family", he added.

The PSI can also be combined with other social benefits to which children and adolescents are entitled.

This benefit will support people with disabilities throughout their lives, particularly when disability is congenital or acquired at an early stage in life.
