New single automobile document has entered into force

The new format of the Single Automobile Document (DUA) entered into force on Thursday, 1 August. With a setting similar to that of the Citizen Card, this new document will be simpler, more practical and more resistant. 

For now, the DUA applies only to new registrations, but in 2020 it will be extended to all motor vehicles.

Like the previous document, this will be a kind of identification document for vehicles, which also proves its registration and ownership and allows it to circulate in the European Union countries.

"O DUA na Carteira" [DUA in the Wallet] is a Simplex measure included in Justiça+Próxima [Closer Justice] Plan, aiming to simplify the information content available in the document and to gather data on the characteristics of the vehicle and its owner. The Ministry of Justice foresees that in the next five months, 200 000 DUA with the new dimensions will be issued.
