Applying for the special driving test

If your driving license has expired more than two years and less than five years ago, you can propose yourself to take a special exam to renew your license. You do not need to re-enroll in driving school.

If your license has been expired more than five years and less than ten years ago, you must attend training and take a practical driving test.

If it has been expired less than two years, you do not need to take the test, but you must renew your license.

What are the documents and requirements to applying for the special driving test?

To apply for the issuance of the learner's permit and the special driving test you must:

Fill out the following forms

NB: Form Model 1 IMT is only necessary when the documents are delivered by another person.

Present the following documents

  • Identification document
    • Citizen Card or Identity Card
    • Residence permit or passport
  • Driving license
  • Fiscal Identification Number (taxpayer number)
  • Electronic Medical Certificate (you don't need to deliver the certificate, just go to an appointment and ask for the certificate, which is sent directly by the doctor by email to the Institute of Mobility and Transport)
  • Certificate of favorable psychological evaluation - only for those who drive ambulances, fire trucks, patient transport vehicles, school transport, and light passenger vehicles for hire (categories B, BE, C, CE, C1, C1E, D, DE, D1, and D1E).

What is the Price to applying for the special driving test?

Revalidate the driving license

You will pay the following amounts:

  • License revalidation request: 30€
  • Issue of a learning permit: 15€
  • Test: 30€

Revalidate the driving permit

You will pay the following amounts:

  • Permit revalidation request: 15€
  • Issue of a learning permit: 10€
  • Test: 30€

How applying for the special driving test?

To apply for the special driving test, go to a desk of the Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) or a private examination center and bring the necessary documents with you.

To allow you to drive while your exam is still pending, the IMT will issue you with a replacement document replacement. This document is valid for six months and is not renewable.
