Obtain information on the social support for children and adolescents in danger
Social support for children and adolescents in danger is a set of integrated responses of social care and support for children and adolescents in danger, whose main objectives are to promote the rights and protect the children and adolescents in danger through responses aimed for the personal and social development of the child or adolescent in a safety and familiar environment which grants them safety, health, upbringing, education, well-being and full development.
There are 4 types of responses:
Family Support and Parental Counselling Centre (CAFAP)
The responses mentioned in paragraphs c) and d) derive from the application of a promotion and protection measure decreed by the Children and Adolescents’ Protection Committee (CPCJ) or by the competent Court and integrate the Promotion System of Children and Adolescents in Danger provided for in Law no. 147/99, of 1 September, with the wording granted by Law no. 142/2015, of 8 September.
The Children and Adolescents’ Protection Committee (CPCJ are non-judicial official institutions which aim to promote the children’s rights and prevent or eradicate situations which endanger their safety, health, upbringing, education and full development.
The CPCJ’s intervention involves the participation of the parents or legal representative or of those who exercise the parental responsibilities.
The Court may be a District Court or a Family and Minors Court. In all Courts, the Public Prosecution assumes the role of advocate for the children and adolescents’ rights. Regarding the Family and Minors Courts, there is always a Shift Prosecutor (Public Prosecution) to respond to the participation in a situation of danger.
