Request the vehicle’s characteristics certificate

This certificate demonstrates the technical data of a vehicle: the vehicle identification and motor numbers, tyres’ measurements, colour, type of fuel, type of gearbox, vehicle’s category, tare weight and others.

The certificate is issued by the Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes (Mobility and Transports Institute) and may be easily requested online.

Online

  1. Access the IMT Online
  2. Sign in with:
  • the tax payer number and access password to the Finances Portal, the Citizen Card, sign in pin or Digital Mobile Key, if the certificate is requested by an individual
  • the company’s tax payer number or the representatives’ sign in with the company’s tax identification number, if the certificated is requested by a company.
  1. Access “Vehicles > Certificate”
  2. Make the payment with the multibanco reference provided
  3. The certificate is available for printing after the payment is made.

On the location

  1. Print the request Model 13 IMT
  2. Fill in the form. Use the field “Request” to request the certificate and indicate the vehicle’s plate number
  3. Submit the request at the regional IMT service closer to you.

By mail

  4. Indicate if you wish to collect the certificate at an IMT service desk or receive it by mail
  5. In an envelope, send to the IMT service closer to you (it is where you may collect the certificate):
  • the request
  • a cheque to the order of IGCP, E.P.E. to pay for the certificate.

If you requested to receive the certificate by mail, you must add 5€ to the envelope to pay for the shipping charges.

  1. If you did not request to receive the certificate by mail, you must collect it at the IMT service to which you sent the request.

What are the documents and requirements to request the vehicle’s characteristics certificate?

  • To submit the request online, you need to sign in with:

    the tax payer number and access password to the Finances Portal, the citizen card, sign in pin or Digital Mobile Key, if the certificate is requested by an individual

    the company’s tax payer number or the representatives’ sign in with the company’s tax identification number, if the certificated is requested by a company.

  • For requests by mail or at the IMT’s service desks, no documents are required.
