Request a duplicate of the pin letter

You do not have the letter with the PIN codes to pick up your Citizen Card? You made an address change request and didn’t receive the address confirmation letter?

For 90 days from the card request date or 50 days from the address change, you may request a duplicate of the PIN letter, free of charge. The letter is mandatory to pick up the card or to confirm the address change.

Who can Request a duplicate of the pin letter?

  • Any person who requested:

    • the Citizen Card less than 90 days before and had not yet picked it up
    • the change of address less than 50 days before and had not yet received the address confirmation letter.

What are the documents and requirements to Request a duplicate of the pin letter?

You will need to identify yourself

To submit the request, you will need to identify yourself in one of the following ways:

  • stating the number which identifies the request process of the Citizen Card and your civil identification number
  • stating your full name, date of birth and place of birth.

The people under the age of 12 must be accompanied by their legal representative

If the person that requested the Citizen Card is under the age of 12, the request must be carried out by their legal representative, which must hold one of the following documents:

  • Citizen Card
  • Identification document
  • Residence permit
  • Document of consular registration of your residence area
  • Document that proves your power of attorney, if you are not registered as a representative on the IRN databases.

The legal representative may be the mother, father or other person with parental power over the person requesting the card.

The prohibited and disabled must be accompanied by their guardian

If the Citizen Card is for a prohibited or disabled person, the request of the duplicate of the PIN letter with the codes must be presented by their guardian or caregiver. The guardian or caregiver shall have to identify themselves through the display of one of the following documents:

  • Citizen Card
  • Identification document
  • Residence permit
  • Document of consular registration of your residence area
  • Document that proves your power of attorney, if you are not registered as a representative on the IRN databases.

There are deadlines to request a duplicate

You may request a duplicate within:

  1. 90 days after the card request

If there has already been more than 90 days from the date of request of the Citizen Card, it is not possible to request a duplicate of the PIN letter with the codes.

If you did not receive the letter with the codes and it passed 90 days from the date of request of the Citizen Card, you must request a new card. When you submit this request, you shall receive a new PIN letter with new codes.

  1. 50 days after the request of change of address

If there has already been more than 50 days from the date of request of the change of address, it is not possible to request a duplicate of the letter for address confirmation.

If you did not receive the confirmation letter and it passed already 50 days from the date of request of change of address, you must make a new request of change of address. When you submit this request, you shall receive a new address confirmation letter.

You may only request a duplicate if you have not picked up your card yet

It is not impossible to request a duplicate of the PIN letter with the codes after picking up the Citizen Card. In this case, you must request a new card. When you submit this request, you shall receive a new pin letter, with new codes.

It must be requested in person, on a reception desk where the Citizen Card is created. Then, you shall receive a letter on the indicated address.

The time the letter takes to arrive depends on the place where you will receive the letter with the codes and the request urgency.
