The social unemployment benefit is an instalment in cash that may be granted to those who are not entitled to an unemployment benefit or those who finished the concession period of the unemployment benefit and remain unemployed (initial unemployment benefit and subsequent unemployment benefit to it, respectively).

Who can Request the social unemployment benefit?

To the initial unemployment benefit are entitled the below listed individuals who meet the assignment conditions:

  • Workers resident on national territory, covered by the general social security scheme of dependent employment, who:
    • Had an employment contract and became unemployed or
    • Suspended the employment contract due to wage arrears.
    • Invalidity pensioners of the general social security scheme, deemed apt for work by an exam of invalidity’s review and currently unemployed
    • Workers of the customs sector
    • Basic and secondary education teachers
    • Former soldiers on a contract/volunteering regime
    • Domestic workers if their contributions were calculated based on the real wage
    • Undifferentiated agricultural workers, if their contributions were calculated based on the real wage.
    • To the social unemployment benefit subsequent to the unemployment benefit are entitled the individuals who finished the concession period of the unemployment benefit, remain unemployed and meet the assignment conditions.

When can you Request the social unemployment benefit?

  • The initial social unemployment benefit must be requested within 90 consecutive days from the date of unemployment, at the job centre. 
  • The Certificate, Mod. MG8-DGGS, must be submitted at the social security service of your area of residence, within 90 consecutive days from the date of termination of the unemployment benefit.
  • The submission of the request or Certificate after the 90 days, but during the legal concession period of the benefit, implies the reduction on the concession period for the time correspondent to the delay observed.

How can you Request the social unemployment benefit?

The initial unemployment benefit is requested on the job center closer to your area of residence. 

Before requesting it, the unemployed individual must be registered for work at that job centre.
If, within 90 consecutive days from the date of unemployment, they are unable to work due to an illness, the registration may be carried out by a representative.

In the case of the social unemployment benefit subsequent to the unemployment benefit, you must submit a Certificate of the composition and income of the household, Mod. MG8-DGGS, at the social security service of your area of residence, within 90 consecutive days from the date of termination of the unemployment benefit.
