2.4 billion programme presented to support family incomes

The Government approved yesterday, September 5, a programme to support family income in the face of the rising cost of living. 

The eight measures presented are: 

  • Those with a gross monthly income of up to 2700 euros will receive a support of 125 euros paid in October
  • Payment of 50 euros for each descendant, child or young person (up to 24 years of age) that you have in your care. Amount to be received in the month of October
  • Extraordinary pension, to be paid in October, of 50% for pensioners with pensions up to 5,318.4 euros.  In 2023, pensions up to 886 euros will be increased by 4.43%, pensions between 886 and 2,659 euros by 4.07%, and other pensions subject to update by 3.53%
  • Request to parliament to approve the decrease of VAT on electricity from 13% to 6% between October 2022 and December 2023
  • Couple with 2 children (average family in Portugal) will have a minimum saving of 10% on their gas bill if they choose to switch to the regulated market
  • Maximum 2% increase in house rents, with compensation in the landlords' IRS and IRC
  • The price of public transport passes and trips on the Portuguese Railways (CP) will remain unchanged for 2023
  • Savings of 16 euros and 14 euros on a 50-litre tank of petrol and diesel, respectively, according to measures already in place until the end of this year.

These measures are in addition to the 1.6 billion euros of support announced by the Government in the first half of the year and which are still in force. Altogether, the measures adopted to offset inflation amount to 4 billion euros.
