Brexit: DGAE publishes checklist to support businesses at the end of the transition

23.10.2020

The Directorate General for Economic Activities (DGAE) has published a checklist and detailed information on its Portal, including possible scenarios after this transitional period, so that companies can adjust and adapt to new rules of commercial relations between member countries and the United Kingdom.

After the Exit Agreement was established and the United Kingdom officially left the European Union earlier this year, a transitional period ending on 31 December 2020 has been established.

This period, which is coming to an end and in which previous Single European Market and Customs Union rules still prevail, adds doubts about the bilateral international trade agreements to be applied in early 2021. If agreements emerge, free trade and commerce will always be subject to customs procedures and border controls, as is the case with non-EU countries. After this transition there will no longer be free movement of goods, services, persons and capital. You can consult information on road haulage from the UK for Portuguese companies operating in the UK.

Information on the new import and export context for EU companies is also available on the DGAE portal.
