22.12.2023

On December 20, the work area of the new Nationality Platform was presented, with the aim of simplifying and speeding up the process of obtaining Portuguese nationality.

The event took place at the Central Registry Office in Lisbon and was attended by the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Administrative Moderniszation, Mário Campolargo, the Secretary of State for Justice, Pedro Ferrão Tavares, and the Board of Directors of the Institute of Registries and Notaries.

The launch of this platform is a new phase in the evolution of nationality processes, after the Nationality Online service was made available in February of this year.

The new Platform BackOffice in the Civil Registry system will help automate various tasks, through the use of Artificial Intelligence and communication with other entities, such as the Judicial Police (PJ), the Directorate General for the Administration of Justice (DGAJ) and the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA).

The project is funded by the PRR and has an initial budget of 1.4 million euros.

In November, the online submission of nationality applications became compulsory for agents (lawyers or solicitors), which corresponds to 90% of the nationality applications submitted.
