New generation of public services and renewed Citizen Card

15.03.2024

Today, March 15, the government presented a new service model to make it easier and quicker for citizens to contact the state. A "New Generation of Public Services: +Close, +Fragile, +Connected", which also brings a Citizen's Card with a new image. The event took place at the Lisbon Cruise Terminal and was promoted by the Agência para a Modernização Administrativa (AMA).

The aim of this new service model is that the experience of contacting State services will have a single point, capable of answering various questions from different public entities. The new service model is based on an integrated service for Public Administration entities, so that citizens can resolve their issues, with a minimum of effort and time, in a single location, whether physical or online.

The ePortugal portal remains the main digital access point for citizens to interact with the Public Administration. The new version of the portal, called Cidadão, will have more services and a new, more intuitive user experience.

A new application will also be created, the Cidadão app, which will bring together all the State's mobile applications, enabling the most sought-after services to be carried out via cell phone.

New generation of Citizen's Shops

A new generation of Citizen Shops and Citizen Spaces will be launched, with one-stop-shops offering a wide range of services from various entities. These counters will also offer services by telephone and video call. With this new model, citizens will no longer have to think about which entity they need to contact. Simply go to the one-stop shop and the services will know how to help.

Mobile Citizen's Shops will be made available, itinerant electric vans that will act as service desks. The vans will travel around the parishes, thus ensuring greater proximity to the population that is further away from the urban centers, thus preventing people from having to travel longer distances.

Pop-up stores will also be set up, offering a range of quick public services that are in greater demand and which will act as "unblockers" for certain requests or situations that are very busy in certain areas of the country.

All these measures come under a single brand: Cidadão. This brand gives a common visual identity to this whole new service model.

New Citizen's Card

The Citizen's Card will have a new version, with greater physical and electronic security, from June 10th.

With a contactless chip, which eliminates the need for a smartcard reader, the Citizen's Card can be used in a variety of situations, both in public services and in the private sector.

The new card also brings visual novelties, such as a larger photograph, to better identify the holder, and the chip will now be on the back.

The card's software has already been made available, which will allow the development of services that take advantage of the new features of the Citizen's Card. For example, in the future it could be used as a ticket to travel on public transport throughout the country or be associated with tickets to shows and electronic tickets.
