Displaced teachers in Lisbon and the Algarve will receive rent support

Kindergarten teachers and primary and secondary school teachers in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley and Algarve regions who have to pay for a second home will receive rent support of up to 200 euros. This support covers teachers up to and including the seventh step. 

The measure covers teachers posted in these regions, at a distance of more than 70 km from their usual residence, and who need to rent or sublet secondary housing in the area where they were posted.  

In order to calculate how much each teacher will receive, their average monthly income will be taken into account, as well as the cost of their first home (whether it's rent or a home loan payment) and their second home. If the teacher benefits from other rent support granted by the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU), this amount will be deducted from the amount defined by the above calculation.

The application for rent support for teachers is made through the SIGRHE application.

The support applies to rents paid from September 1, 2023 and will be in force until the end of 2025.
