Proof of school attendance must be registered in Segurança Social Direta until 21 August

11.08.2020

Primary, secondary and equivalent school students enrolled in public or private establishments with a contract of association must check by August 21st whether the Enrolment Evidence is registered with the Segurança Social Direta (SSD - Direct Social Security).

The Enrolment Evidence must be carried out by the individuals to which the family allowance is being paid. For adolescents from the age of 14, if they receive Family Allowance paid by Social Security, with or without a scholarship, and from the age of 18, if they receive Social Security Survivor’s Pension.

The Evidence is essential to ensure the assignment and continuity of the payment of the Family Allowance, the Scholarship and the Survivor's Pension, and the verification by the interested parties is indispensable to correct faults.

How to take the Enrolment Evidence

In the SSD, in the "Family" tab, select the menu "Family and pre-natal allowance" and choose the option “Submit enrolment evidence".

When information is already exchanged between Education and Social Security, the evidence is automatically registered by the services. In these cases, the “Submission" field has the date filled in, meaning that the Enrolment Evidence is done.

When the “Submission" field does not appear filled in, it is necessary to select "Take the Enrolment Evidence”. If there is more than one holder of Family Allowance the steps for each one of them must be repeated.

In the case of professional training courses in private education with equivalence to primary or secondary education, or in higher education, students have to take the Enrolment Evidence manually at SSD, because their enrolment is not automatically registered in the Social Security system.

Absence of the Enrolment Evidence

The lack of an Enrolment Evidence results in the suspension, from September onwards, of the payment of the Family Allowance, the Scholarship and the Survivor's Pension.

When it is not possible to enrol by August 21st (e.g. students in higher education) the Enrolment Evidence can be taken until December 31st, and payments, including those that have been suspended, are resumed.

Anyone receiving Family Allowance and Survivor's Pension has to take only one Enrolment Evidence for the Family Allowance.
