Prescriptions and medical examinations are now valid for 12 months

The validity of prescriptions for medicines, analyses and medical examinations has been extended to 12 months. The measure came into force on 1 April 2023.

The extension of validity applies to all types of prescriptions and tests prescribed in the National Health Service (NHS) and in health care providers in the private and social sector. The adaptation of computer systems will be progressive, with a deadline of 90 days.

The measure aims to reduce the number of trips to health centres and other health units, as well as reduce the administrative work of medical doctors.
