Restrictions for air travel and cruise ships until May 30

17.05.2021

The Government has decided to maintain the restrictive measures on air traffic until 23h59 of 30 May. The restrictions also apply to the boarding and unboarding of cruise ship passengers and crews at ports in mainland Portugal.

As of today, 17 May, those departing from the countries of the European Union, the Schengen Area (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland and Switzerland) and the United Kingdom can make non-essential journeys to Portugal. The rule is that the countries of origin must have fewer than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

When travelling from countries with more than 500 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, only essential travel is allowed. Furthermore, a prophylactic isolation period of 14 days after entering mainland Portugal is mandatory. This list includes countries such as South Africa, Brazil and India, Cyprus, Croatia, Lithuania, the Netherlands and Sweden. This measure does not apply to passengers who have only made a stopover in one of these countries.

Remember that anyone arriving in Portugal by air (except children up to 24 months old) must present proof of a negative test for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19), carried out up to 72 hours before boarding.

Essential journeys are considered to be those undertaken for professional, study, family reunion, health or humanitarian reasons.
