SNS strengthened with inpatient beds and vehicles

12.06.2023

The National Network for Continued Care (RNCCI) and the National Palliative Care Network (RNCP) will increase their number of beds by 40% and have more electric vehicles, funded by the Program for Recovery and Resilience (PRR).

These investments aim to increase the network's response capacity, reduce the effects of inflation and focus on proximity responses in the community.

Inpatient Places

By reinforcing the number of beds, the initiative will allow the construction, by 2025, of 5,500 new hospitalization places in the RNCCI, increasing the response capacity and support to users and caregivers.

The amount of funding by the RRP for each new bed in continuous care integrated in the general network will be 42 thousand euros. The same amount is set for new inpatient beds in palliative care of lesser complexity. Until now, each new bed in long-term care corresponded to a contribution of 30 thousand euros.

Electric Vehicles

The National Health Service will be reinforced with 780 more electric vehicles and 18 new mobile health units. The investment exceeds 24.6 million euros and will be implemented over the next two years.

Of the 780 vehicles planned, 23 are destined for the National Network for Integrated Continued Care, with the rest being delivered to Local Health Units and Health Center Groupings.

The acquisition of electric vehicles and mobile units is part of the investments planned in the RRP to strengthen primary health care, as well as the National Network of Integrated Continuous Care and the National Palliative Care Network. Improvements are also planned in the area of mental health.

The acquisition process will be carried out by the Ministry of Health's Shared Services.
