10.09.2019 | AMA

In the legislative elections scheduled for 6 October, it will be possible for voters registered in national territory to vote in advance in the following cases:

  • on mobility (if they are not at their polling station on election day)
  • patients admitted to a hospital
  • prisoners not deprived of political rights
  • citizens abroad

Voters, with exception of those living abroad, must communicate their intention to vote in advance. This communication must be made through a request sent by the early voting platform or by mail to the Electoral Administration of the General Secretariat of Ministry of Internal Administration (SGMAI).
The dates for submitting the request and the voting period vary depending on the type of voter:

  • Patients admitted to hospitals and prisoners not deprived of political rights must submit the request by 16 September. Early voting takes place between 23 and 26 September in the institutions in which they are located.
  • In case of mobility, they must submit the request between 22 and 26 September. Early voting takes place on 29 September at a polling station previously chosen by the voter. There will be a polling station in each district seat and in each of the islands of the Autonomous Regions.
  • The voters living abroad may exercise their voting right between 24 and 26 September, going to the diplomatic, consular or external delegations of Portuguese public institutions, previously established by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They do not need to submit a request.

For more information, consult the Voter's Portal and the information leaflets available for each of the specific cases.
