This programme is aimed at the entire population covered by the health system and the National Health Service and is expected to be implemented by 2020. Pain, in particular chronic pain, has an impact on the person far beyond the suffering it causes, namely psychological sequelae, isolation, disability and loss of quality of life. This impact can go beyond the person themselves and involve family, caregivers and friends. One of the Health 2020 targets is to contribute to citizens' pain prevention and control literacy.
