D9+ countries sign declaration for Europe’s Digital Decade

The countries of the D9+ group, an informal group of digital leaders in Europe, met this Wednesday, 27 January, in a videoconference, to sign the joint declaration "Leading the Way to Europe's Digital Decade". Portugal has been a member of this European Union group since October 2020.

The aim of this initiative for the Digital Decade in Europe is to secure a digital leadership position for Europe, targeting investments in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, 5G technologies and data economy to strengthen digital competitive advantage in the next decade.

The Secretary of State for Digital Transition, André de Aragão Azevedo, was present at the meeting representing Portugal, and said that 31% of the funds available in the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan will be allocated to digital transition measures.

In addition to Portugal, D9+ brings together the European countries with the best ranking in the Annual Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI): Denmark, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Spain, Ireland, Estonia, Czech Republic and Poland. The purpose is to promote the use, implementation and sharing of best practices in digitisation.
