IMT launches 'My driving license' platform

07.08.2023

The Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) has launched the My Driving License platform, which allows drivers to check the validity of their license and know when they should renew it.

Drivers who took their license after January 1, 2018, if it is time to be renewed, can start the revalidation process through the platform.

Drivers who obtained their driving license before January 1, 2008 should be aware that they may have the wrong expiration date on the document. The date printed on driving licenses taken before January 1, 2008 is prior to the change in the law that requires revalidation at 50, 60, 65 and 70 years and then every 2 years.

Anyone who has a driving license issued before January 1, 2008, and if the license has been expired for more than two years, can renew the license through the platform without having to take a special exam. To do so, you must not have registered for a special test before, nor registered for a new license and failed the test.

The measure entered into force on August 1, 2023 and lasts for one year.

IMT intends to evolve the platform to include new features, such as:

The My Driving License platform was launched on the day of the entry into force of Decree-Law No. 63/2023, of July 31, which creates the Extraordinary Driving License Revalidation Regime (RERTC).

IMT has prepared a page dedicated to the RERTC to clarify drivers' doubts. On this page it is also possible to submit a form to request the renewal of the driving license in a simple and fast way.
