Automated driving license renewal on the id.gov.pt mobile app
The Institute for Mobility and Transport (IMT) and the Agency for Administrative Modernization (AMA) will be making driving license renewals available via the id.gov.pt mobile app from October 16, 2023.
License renewal via the id.gov.pt app is only possible, in this first phase, for people with a category B driving license who are under 50 years old and who have a Digital Mobile Key and Citizen Card.
How will it work?
About 5 months before the category B license expires, the IMT will alert every driver under the age of 50 with a Digital Mobile Key to renew their license.
- For those who don't have the id.gov.pt app installed, IMT will send an SMS asking them to install the app.
- For those who already have the id.gov.pt app installed, IMT will send a push notification via the app to start the renewal.
Renewing your driving license using the id.gov.pt mobile app is a simple and quick process, which is completed in just a few steps.
Payment is made by ATM reference and costs 27 euros.
The new driving license is sent by post to the address on the Citizen's Card.
