Courts with new digital tools

23.06.2023

The courts are in a new phase of digital transformation process. This digital transformation aims to speed up, simplify and reduce the costs of judicial proceedings, making them faster and more efficient.

In this new phase, citizens and companies will have faster responses to their judicial requests. One of the examples of these new technological tools is the possibility of lawyers having access through the Internet to audio recordings of the proceedings, reducing the time and costs associated.

Another project of this digital transformation is the remodelling of the courtrooms. Among the planned improvement points are:

  • allowing real-time access and sharing of procedural documents available in the justice information systems with the display and assessment of evidence by the public prosecutor and lawyers will now be carried out in high-definition systems
  • the post-hearing availability of videos of depositions and the detail of body expression, for future consultation
  • simplifying the recording, automatic transcription and translation process with the use of artificial intelligence.

The digital transformation of the courts has already enabled

  • the creation of 229 Branches+
  • 55% of online case consultations by citizens are carried out outside court opening hours
  • the online request of more than 1.3 million criminal records
  • an investment of 1,000 new computers by the end of 2023.

This new phase of the digital transformation of the courts is made through funds from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), which provided a sum of 266.9 million euros for the Economic Justice and Business Environment component.
