Requesting a driving licence authenticity certificate
A driving licence authenticity certificate serves as proof that your driving licence is authentic. For example, you can show it to an entity outside Portugal when you exchange a Portuguese driving licence for a foreign driving licence.
The certificate can be issued in Portuguese or English and is valid for 6 months. Its authenticity can be checked using a verification code or QR code.

Online, on the ‘A Minha Carta de Condução’ (‘My driving licence’) portal
To request a driving licence authenticity certificate, you will need to log in to the ‘A Minha Carta de Condução’ portal using one of the following means:
- your Citizen Card;
- a Digital Mobile Key (CMD).
At an IMT service desk
You will need to show a valid identification document.

It is cheaper to request a driving licence authenticity online, where it costs EUR 5.40.
At an IMT service desk
A driving licence authenticity certificate costs EUR 6 if you request it at a service desk.
How requesting a driving licence authenticity certificate?
Online, on the ‘A Minha Carta de Condução’ (‘My driving licence’) portal
You will need to sign in using one of the following means of authentication:
- your Citizen Card;
- a Digital Mobile Key (CMD).
Once you have signed in, follow these steps:
- Choose the option ‘certidão de autenticidade’ (‘authenticity certificate’) and click on ‘pedir certidão’ (‘request certificate’).
- A Multibanco reference will be generated. You will not be able to pay until 24 hours after you submit the request. You must pay within 10 days. If you fail to do so, the request will be automatically cancelled.
- Once you have paid, go to the ‘consulta da certidão’ (‘view certificate’) section to obtain the certificate (in Portuguese or English) and the payment receipt.
At an IMT service desk
Go to an IMT (Institute for Mobility and Transport) service desk, taking a valid identification document with you.
You will need to fill in and submit the form IMT model 13 (General Request). This form is available at the service desk.
