To request a certificate of authenticity, you must log in to the IMT Online portal using one of the following methods:

  • certificate proving successful attendance of the 8?hour road training course;
  • criminal record certificate specifying the function ‘Motorista de TVDE’ (‘TVDE driver’);
  • valid driving licence and group 2 endorsement.

What is the deadline to renewing a professional driver’s certificate for an ordinary vehicle (CMTVDE)?

You can apply to renewal your professional driver’s certificate for an ordinary vehicle (CMTVDE) from 6 months before its expiry date. If you do not renew your certificate before the expiry date, your certificate will expire and you will no longer be able to renew it.

If you let your certificate expire and you want to continue working or return to work as a TVDE driver, you must successfully attend an initial 50‑hour training course in order to be issued with a new certificate.

The CMTVDE is valid for 5 years, and is renewable for a further 5 years.

How renewing a professional driver’s certificate for an ordinary vehicle (CMTVDE)?

Online, on the IMT portal

You will need to sign in using one of the following means of authentication:

  • your Citizen Card;
  • a Digital Mobile Key (CMD);
  • your taxpayer number and the password that you have set for the IMT portal;
  • login details for the Tax Office website (taxpayer number and password).

Follow the steps detailed below.

  1. Log in to your private area on IMT Online.
  2. Choose the option ‘transportes’ (‘transport’), then ‘certificado’ (‘certificate’).
  3. Fill in the renewal form with the requested documents, and submit the application.
  4. A Multibanco reference will be generated.
  5. Once you have paid, you must wait for the application to be processed.
  6. Once the process is complete, you will receive a notification at the email address you used to register with IMT Online*.

You can enter or change your email address on the IMT Online portal under the ‘Registo no Portal’ (‘Register on the portal’) tab.
