Applying for an analysis of the marketing of goods in Portugal under the mutual recognition procedure

Mutual recognition is a principle provided for in European Union (EU) legislation according to which goods lawfully sold in one Member State (MS) can be lawfully marketed and sold in another MS.

Procedure

  1. Sending the form
    • Click on the ‘access the service’ button.
    • Authenticate using a Digital Mobile Key, a Citizen card or a Digital Certificate.
    • Complete the online form and attach photographs of the product for which you would like to obtain information.
    • Submit your application.
  2. Analysis of the application
    • The form and documentation are analysed by the authority responsible for the goods concerned.
    • If everything is in order, the procedure is complete.
    • In the event of errors, additional information or rectifications to documents will be requested. After the new documents are submitted by the applicant, they will be reanalysed for subsequent validation.

Although the Directorate-General for Economic Activities (DGAE) is the competent authority for mutual recognition in Portugal, other competent authorities exist for different types of goods:

  • Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (IAPMEI) – construction products, tin and used machinery;
  • National Authority for Animal Health (DGAV) – Biocidal products and food supplements;
  • Directorate-General for Economic Activities (DGAE) – fertilisers;
  • Portuguese Mint and Official Printing Office (INCM) – precious metals;
  • Portuguese Quality Institute (IPQ) – measuring instruments;
  • Public Security Police (PSP) – weapons and ammunition.
