Who can request the social adoption allowance?
National or foreign, refugees and stateless citizens:
not covered by any mandatory social protection scheme, or
covered by a mandatory social protection scheme, not entitled to the adoption allowance
Beneficiaries who receive an unemployment benefit or a social unemployment benefit.
When can you request the social adoption allowance?
The allowance must be requested within six months from the date in which the legal or administrative authorization was granted for the adoption.
If you submit the request after this period, but still during the period in which you are entitled to receive the allowance, the days of delay won’t be paid.
What are the documents and requirements to request the social adoption allowance?
To be entitled to the allowance, the beneficiary must meet the following conditions:
Reside in Portugal or being similar to residents
Do not hold, as well as their household, movable heritage (bank deposits, shares, obligations, savings certificates, securities and securities units on collective investment institutions) on an amount higher than 240 times the amount of the social supports indexation (IAS) to the date of the request
Have a monthly income, per person, of the household equal or lower than 80% of the IAS.
