New regime for land registry

A new legal regime for registering buildings and properties in Portugal was approved. The National Cadastral Information System and the Cadastral Map will become the single, universal register of registered buildings.

The aim is to increase knowledge about national land ownership, since currently only 30% of the territory has a land register.

In addition to simplifying registration procedures, the new regime also allows the information in the cadastre to be shared with that available at the Autoridade Tributária and at the Land Registry of the Registries.
