Online request for citizenship with the help of Artificial Intelligence

Applications for Portuguese citizenship will now count with the help of an Artificial Intelligence tool that allows the service to be done online, through the automatic validation of the authenticity of the documents. In the first phase of the project, the online application will have to be made by representatives.

The documentation will now be validated by the Artificial Intelligence tools, not requiring manual verification of documents by the Institute of Registration and Notary Affairs (IRN). Since this is one of the most requested services at IRN, this new tool will reduce the time of the request and avoid trips to the counter.

This authenticity validator is part of a set of measures of the first Govtech strategy to support the Justice area. The objectives are innovation and digital transformation of this sector, to make services more agile and efficient.

This strategy has a €26 million support from the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and integrates several technology-based projects in Justice.
