Applying for authorisation to market official means of identification for equine animals
In order to market official means of identification for animals of the equine species (horses, donkeys and mules), an authorisation from the National Authority for Animal Health [Direção Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária] (DGAV) is required.

Access the service online
You will need one of the following means of authentication to access this service:
- Digital Mobile Key (CMD)
- Citizen Card
- Digital Certificate

Procedure
- Sending the form
- Click on the ‘access the service’ button.
- Confirm your identity using a valid means of electronic identification (Digital Mobile Key, Citizen Card or Digital Certificate).
- Fill in the online form and attach the requested documents: description of the means of identification; quality certification (ICAR – International Committee for Animal Recording, ISO – International Organization for Standardization, or similar certification).
- Submit your application.
- Send samples of the product you wish to market to the DGAV headquarters, indicating the reference number allocated after submitting the form.
- Examination of documents
- The DGAV receives and examines the documents and, if necessary, will request any additional information or documents. It then informs the applicant of the decision.
- Publication on the DGAV website of a notice that the product has been approved.
