Medicated feed – applying for authorisation to manufacture medicated feed and intermediate products for animals
Medicated feed can only be manufactured by establishments authorised to manufacture compound feed.
A business wishing to manufacture medicated feed must apply for authorisation to the National Authority for Animal Health (Direção-Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária – DGAV). It must comply with hygiene requirements for animal feed and best manufacturing practices.

Procedure and requirements
Procedure
Businesses must apply for authorisation online on the ePortugal portal; the application will then be reviewed by the DGAV.
The procedure is as follows:
- Submitting the form
- Click on the ‘PEDIR AGORA’ (REQUEST ONLINE) button.
- Verify your identity using a valid means of electronic identification (Digital Mobile Key, Citizen Card or Digital Certificate).
- Complete the online form and attach the documents.
- Submit your application.
- Reviewing the application decision
- The application is sent to the DGAV for review and evaluation.
- If the documentation is all in order, the DGAV will conduct a site visit to make sure that the requirements are met.
- If the form is filled in incorrectly or any documents are missing, the applicant will be contacted and asked to send the additional documents prior to the DGAV’s visit.
- Following the site visit of the manufacturing premises, authorisation will be granted if the applicable requirements are met. The process will be stopped if any of the requirements are not met.
